Aim

Lucy noticed a growing crack in her first-floor bedroom where the external wall meets the neighbouring property. Concerned about potential structural issues, she needed expert advice to understand the cause and determine the safest way forward.

Challenge

The key challenge was identifying whether the crack was caused by ongoing structural movement or minor settlement. A one-time inspection was not enough—accurate assessment required monitoring the crack over time to understand its behaviour.

Our Solution – Inspection, Monitoring & Repair Specification

Cracks often tell a story over time, so we did not just guess; we monitored. Here is how we helped Lucy:

  1. Site Visit: We visited Lucy’s home for a thorough visual inspection to identify the likely causes of the movement.
  2. Home History: We sat down with Lucy to understand the timeline, when the crack first appeared, how quickly it was growing, and what changes she had noticed over time.
  3. Precision Monitoring: We installed specialised “crack gauges” to track any movement down to the millimetre.
  4. Teamwork: Over the next 10 months, Lucy became our eyes on the ground. She sent us regular photos of the gauges, and we provided her with monthly updates on the progress.
  5. The Final Report: Once we had enough data, we issued a comprehensive report explaining exactly why the crack appeared.
  6. The Path Forward: We provided Lucy with clear repair options, giving her the confidence and the “next steps” needed to restore her home

Outcome

With a clear understanding of the cause and behaviour of the crack, Lucy was able to move forward with confidence. The structured monitoring and expert analysis removed uncertainty, providing a clear path to repair and long-term peace of mind

Structural Crack Investigation

Structural cracks in your home can be concerning, but not all cracks indicate a serious problem. Understanding what has caused the crack and whether it is stable or changing is key to deciding the right course of action.

Our structured approach is designed to give you clear answers and practical guidance. We combine a careful property inspection, informed assessment, and (where needed) precise monitoring to ensure any recommendations are based on evidence, not guesswork.

We offer flexible appointment times, including evening and weekend property inspections, making it easier to arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
